Highlights

In almost every town across Dorset you'll find craft shops, art galleries and gift shops selling local producally goods.

You'll be guaranteed to find something unique and it'll be a great reminder of your holiday.

Made in Dorset

There are a huge number of artisans who make, create or upcycle in Dorset and sell their wares in the local shops, galleries or emporiums.

So whether it’s a winter hat knitted with wool from Corfe Castle sheep, natural soaps made with Dorset honey or handmade bags crafted from hand-printed material, you know that it’s made with local products, by local people and you can buy it in local shops too – a triple win!

We’re very proud of our local producers and makers, and their unique products are sold all over Dorset. Some are also available online, so you can purchase a little piece of Dorset from anywhere in the world.

Creative inspiration

The Dorset landscape plays a huge part in providing inspiration for local artists. Whether they are working on canvas, with clay or textiles, our outstanding coast and countryside helps shape their final creation. And of course this means their works of art are fantastic keepsakes after a holiday to Dorset.

The Boilerhouse Gallery in Corfe Castle has many artists working under one roof. Visit the individual studios to see the huge variety of art, crafts and upcycling created by local people. There is everything from paintings and pottery to jewellery and metalwork. And Corfe Castle heritage railway station is right next door with fantasic views towards the Castle.

Something just for you

Perhaps you'd like to commission one of our artists to paint, sculpt or design a piece of art especially for you?

We have plenty of skilled artisans who would do just that and give you something bespoke and truly unique to keep and treasure forever.

Visit the Creative Gallery in Wareham for individual and unique creations. The gallery is run by the various artists and makers who sell their jewellery, photography, stoneware, paintings and more - you might even see some of them at work!

Touring exhibitions

Highcliffe Castle and Durlston Castle are both home to galleries which have exhibitions of artwork, photography and crafts, where you can admire the creations and sometimes buy them aswell. They, along with many other galleries hold art events throughout the year.

    • Enjoy doing art for fun?
Want to share the experience with others especially during lockdown?
Andy set up during the November lockdown a Facebook Public group - Art for Fun. The ideas is for a range of people who like doing some art to share ideas, examples of things they have produced and to provide a growing community to encourage each other through what can be a very difficult time especially if you are alone.
      The group has 3 rules:
      1) Be kind and courteous - We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Kindness is required.
      2) No promotions or spam - Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed
      3) Art for fun means no judgement - NO comments that are critical, be supportive that members have participated and had a go at some art. Don't compare yourself with others as we all arrive with different experiences.
Andy footnote: I must emphasise this is not for artists to promote themselves in - see rule 2 - I am not using it to market my artwork. I started drawing to help my mental health as a therapy, I spent 30 years teaching 11-16 year olds and my art is self taught, I just practise a lot. I a very aware of how people say I can't draw or do art...if you enjoy doing it whatever the outcome please join in and tell others too.
