Things To Do in Lyme Regis

Not sure what there is to see and do in Lyme Regis?  Plenty is the answer!  You’re sure to find an abundance of things to do in Lyme Regis with attractions and activities a plenty.

Walking, outdoor sports, RIB rides, museums, play parks…oh and a couple of great beaches on the world famous Jurassic Coast, you really won’t know where to start!

Life’s a beach!

One of the main attractions of this pretty little seaside town has to be the beaches! A beautiful sandy stretch provides the perfect setting for some serious sand castle building or head over to the more pebbly beach for a bit of stone skimming!  Lyme’s beaches also offer tantalising evidence of the area’s Jurassic past.

What could be better than time spent chasing waves and hunting for interesting stones?

Walk this way!

Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a longer, more energetic, walk, Lyme Regis offers a number of wonderful coastal and inland routes to explore.

Take a family stroll along the Marine Parade and out along the historic Cobb. Make sure you stop at the end and gaze back towards the town; Lyme Regis looks impossibly pretty from this vantage point!  Or why not meander round the town or enjoy a riverside walk.

Pack up a picnic and walk a stretch of the coast path, there might be some steep climbs along the way but you’ll be rewarded with some awe-inspiring views.

Why not join a guided fossil walk or go on an organised guided walk with the fabulous Jurassic Coast Guides; professional mountain leader, Martin, will tailor a walk or fossil hunt specifically for you to suit your own abilities and needs - whether you're looking for something just for you, as a couple, family or large group, Jurassic Coast Guides will ensure you have a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Activities for all

Where do we begin…!  For those with a love of the water there’s plenty of water based activities to take advantage of and you don’t always have to get your feet wet!

Have a splashing time on a paddleboard or kayak or if you fancy something a little more relaxing then take a boat trip, maybe catch a fish or two? If you're looking for something a bit different then give Lyme Bay RIB Rides a go; they offer fast and slower paced boat trips suitable for the whole family.

Or if you prefer to keep your feet firmly on land then try your hand at a game of crazy golf.  This is great for kids and fun lovers and will put smiles on the faces of anyone aged 3 – 103….with a bit of patience!

Magnificent Museum

Any trip to Lyme Regis would not be complete without a trip to The Lyme Regis Philpot Museum.  This museum truly caters for everyone with exhibitions on Jane Austen, The Cobb and its jam packed full of all things fossil!  This place will certainly satisfy anyone’s lust for dinosaurs, you’ll even find a table made from dinosaur poo!!

The Museum is built on the site of famous fossil collector Mary Anning's home and fossil shop. It has a new a wing dedicated to Mary with an interactive geology gallery telling her story. You can even follow in her footsteps and go fossil hunting on the beach!

Fossil guided walks are available from the museum to entertain all ages with fun and informative guides.
