Take a stroll in stunning gardens

Voted the nation’s Finest Manor House by Country Life and filming location for the 2020 Daphne du Maurier Netflix adaptation of ‘Rebecca’, Mapperton House and Gardens is well worth a visit. This Jacobean manor overlooks acres of award-winning gardens and ponds, enjoying outstanding views of rolling hills and woodland that surround its magnificent location.

The house and gardens are open seasonally, with access to the house through guided tours only. You can also enjoy something to eat or drink in the delightful Coach House café set within the grounds or even stay overnight in their holiday cottage or luxurious glamping tents.

The wider Mapperton Estate is farmed and slowly being re-wilded with the newest edition being a pair of Beavers called Woody and Twiggy. You can take a tour of Mapperton Wildlands to find out more about what has been achieved so far.

Mapperton is the family home and estate of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich and Viscount and Viscountess Hinchingbrooke and for keen viewers of YouTube, you can watch their entertaining and informative videos about living at and looking after the estate.

Fans of a delicious glass of something fruity should certainly make a visit to the Furleigh Wine Estate. Located a few miles outside of Beaminster, the Furleigh Estate run a comprehensive events diary of tasting days and tours of their award winning vineyard. Sample the selection of fine wines while taking in the wonderful scenery; it’s not a bad old life!

If you haven't got time for a tour, you can just stop by for a tasting of their three wines (two still and one sparkling). No booking required but groups are limited to 6 people or less. Organised tours are available for larger groups.

Unearth intriguing history and heritage

The delightful Beaminster Museum boasts a number of intriguing collections highlighting the town rich historical heritage. The museum provides a fascinating insight of how the folk of the town lived and worked with content on display that will entertain young and old.

Iron Age Hillforts

Beaminster is located close to four of Dorset's highest hills giving spectacular views from the top across Dorset and on a clear day you'll see into neighbouring counties too!

At 279 metres, Lewesdon Hill is the highest point in Dorset and is connected with Pilsdon Pen Iron Age Hillfort via the Wessex Ridgeway walking route. So if hiking is your thing, there's lots to explore. The hills are a great place to enjoy a picnic and have a break before making your way back down again.
