Eating Out and Takeaways in Portland

There are eateries based all over the Isle of Portland, but the majority are focussed around Weston, Easton and Fortuneswell. And of course, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a meal overlooking the lighthouse at Portland Bill, Chesil Beach or Portland Harbour?

No matter if you’re looking for somewhere for breakfast, lunch or dinner or perhaps wanting to enjoy a few sundowners with views of the water, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Bistros and bars

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a family lunch to celebrate a special occasion, a catch-up with friends or a romantic meal for two, there is something for all tastes and budgets.

Choose from hotel restaurants with panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast, family-run pubs or contemporary bistros offering eclectic menus.

Seafood

You can’t visit Dorset without sampling some of the locally caught fish and seafood.

There are many fishing boats which bring back fresh fish, lobster, crab and other delights into Weymouth and Portland Harbours, some of which is destined for the local eateries.

Fish of the day could include sea bass, mackerel, mullet, skate, pollack, plaice, turbot or brill.

Many of the restaurants, cafes and pubs will have seafood on the menu, or if you want something to enjoy down on the beach, there are also traditional fish and chip shops for a tasty takeaway.

Coffee shops and cafes

Great for morning coffee, light lunches or a Dorset cream tea, there are lots of places where you'll get a warm welcome and home-cooked food.

Many of them overlook the beach, harbour or sea, so are perfect for a pit stop during a walk along the Jurassic Coast. And most will have an outdoor seating area or offer takeaway options so you can enjoy something to eat while enjoying the south coasts mild climate.
