What's On in Corfe Castle

Whether you are visiting Corfe Castle at Easter, Halloween or Christmas, or in fact at any time of the year, there are always lots of events and festivals taking place to entertain the whole family.

Choose from family friendly events like storytelling and beach combing or perhaps you’d like to delve a little deeper into history with civil war re-enactments and archery displays. There’s open air theatre and guided walks too, so you’ll never be bored during a visit to Corfe Castle.

Castle Capers

The Castle itself is one of the main event venues in the village. Join a guided tour, send your teddy bear off on the zip wire, see a falconry display or watch the sunrise at the summer and winter solstices.

During the summer, the Castle is also host to Stars Under The Stars, where the Purbeck Film Festival brings a number of favourite movies so that visitors can watch open air cinema surrounded by the 12th century castle.

Step back in time

In the village, you’ll find Corfe Castle railway station, where the Swanage Railway stops at. The Railway hosts many events during the year including their steam and diesel galas where the best of the best engines and carriages are on show for visitors to ride along the 6 mile track down to the seaside resort of Swanage. Hear the ‘toot toot’ of the engine and get that nostalgic feeling of 1960’s travel.

Be a seaside explorer

At nearby Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset Wildlife Trust organises a big range of events for the whole family. You can join an expert on a guided walk along the seashore, find out about the Purbeck Marine Protected Reserve or have a go at eco-friendly crabbing.

Also in Kimmeridge Bay, you could join a guided fossil hunting walk with local expert Steve Etches. Over many years Steve has collected a huge amount of fossils, some world firsts, and which are now on display at the Museum of Jurassic Marine Life in Kimmeridge village.
