**January 2021 UPDATE - Lockdown 3.0**
Andy is a self-taught artist based in Purbeck. He started his work as an artist in early 2017. In November 2019 he moved into The Courtyard Studio in Swanage where half the shop features his art in a variety of forms.
Andy also has artwork all year round at HappyHay Emporium, The Courtyard Craft Centre, Lytchett Minster, Dorset.
The studio will be CLOSED unntil further notice while we are in Tier 5 lockdown. When Dorset returns to Tier 3 or lower it will reopen.
Andy’s philosophy is that Art should be for all and his motto is “Art for Fun’. Andy encourages anyone to have a go at art without judgement and see if it helps them to feel calmer, the reason he first started sketching in 2015 was to help with his own depression. Andy is always willing to discuss ways to be creative at home or outside. Once social distancing is no longer a way of life Andy will be reinstating his Art for Fun table in his area of the shop.
Andy’s work comes in prices from pocket money postcards and art materials to hand decorated wooden boxes, greeting cards (including the popular Santa over Purbeck and Dorset Christmas series), fine art (giclée) prints and original art from small easel canvases up to framed A3 pieces. There are also some examples of local wildlife from his photographs. The range of items varies throughout the year. A recent addition are the hand drawn hat designs and original art A6 postcards.
Andy likes to produce one off cards and these include commissioned Valentines cards and logos and cards for local businesses.
The medium that Andy works in is pen and ink, there are no brushes involved in his art. He used fineliner markers for black and white pieces. The colour work uses Winsor and Newton Promarkers and Posca Paint markers. The pens and ink allow Andy to work on a variety of materials from paper and card, to wood and clothing. Often you may be greeted by him in the shop wearing one of his hand drawn overalls or his logo pith helmet.
Andy looks forward to welcoming you to visit him in the studio where he will often be found working on new pieces of work or trying out techniques and ideas.
The shop’s measures for Covid-19 will be displayed in the front window.
While we are in lockdown, follow Andy's work on his blog and access his work through his online store .Andy welcomes contact all year round via email or his social media.

Enjoy doing art for fun?
Want to share the experience with others especially during lockdown?
Andy set up during the November lockdown a Facebook Public group - Art for Fun. The ideas is for a range of people who like doing some art to share ideas, examples of things they have produced and to provide a growing community to encourage each other through what can be a very difficult time especially if you are alone.
The group has 3 rules:
1) Be kind and courteous - We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Kindness is required.
2) No promotions or spam - Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed
3) Art for fun means no judgement - NO comments that are critical, be supportive that members have participated and had a go at some art. Don't compare yourself with others as we all arrive with different experiences.
Andy footnote: I must emphasise this is not for artists to promote themselves in - see rule 2 - I am not using it to market my artwork. I started drawing to help my mental health as a therapy, I spent 30 years teaching 11-16 year olds and my art is self taught, I just practise a lot. I a very aware of how people say I can't draw or do art...if you enjoy doing it whatever the outcome please join in and tell others too.
