Visit Dorset Business Support Hub Plans & strategies
There are a number of plans and strategies that set out the future plans for tourism at a national and local level. From a business perspective it is helpful to be aware of these. When applying for funding from government and other grant making bodies, it is important to show that your proposal will help deliver one or more parts of these strategies. The key documents you may wish to refer to are summarised below.
England's Great South West Tourism Partnership - Towards 2030
The Great South West Tourism Partnership (GSWTP) has outlined a comprehensive strategy to solidify the region's position as the UK's leading tourist destination.
Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership Strategic Economic Plan
The Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) launched its Strategic Economic Plan “Transforming Dorset” in 2014. It sets out the key strengths and opportunities within Dorset’s economy and how they would be supported to drive economic growth. Tourism is recognised as an important sector and the plan outlines ambitious plans for growth to “highlight the unique tourism offer and the unrivalled tourism potential available in Dorset”. Key ways of achieving this include:
- The National Coastal Tourism Academy and the UK’s first Coastal Activity Park to boost tourism growth and create jobs
- A Hotel Training School planned in Bournemouth
- Bournemouth Seafront Strategy

Bournemouth and Poole Tourism Strategy
This Tourism Strategy sets out the key Goals and Priorities that the Destination Management Board and its partners will plan to deliver over the next 5 years, in order to support and sustainably grow our year-round visitor economy in ways that are beneficial to the local economy and community.
