With a mix of high street brands and small, independent shops, the Isle of Purbeck's high streets are full of unique items that you won’t find anywhere else. Don't worry, you'll also find the everyday items that you need on holiday in our supermarkets and farm shops.
Whether you need to buy some beach games to entertain the children or are hunting for an antique to add to your collection, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
If you’re wanting something new for your wardrobe, then Swanage and Wareham have a small range of independant shops for you to browse. You’ll find everything from sandals and shirts to hats and handbags.
And if you’ve forgotten to pack that essential swimsuit, pair of walking boots or book for the beach, then you’ll find those too in Swanage.
Visit Wareham, Swanage and Corfe Castle to find many eclectic, independent shops selling trinkets and collectables. Why not browse the vintage, retro and antique shops for something special and unique. And being on the Jurassic Coast, of course you can buy fossils and gemstones too.
If you’re looking for a piece of art to remind you of your visit to Dorset, there are many galleries selling pottery, paintings, glasswork, sculpture and jewellery for all tastes and budgets.
There is no need to do the food shop before you arrive. Wareham and Swanage have well known supermarkets, as well as independent butchers, bakers, fishmongers and farm shops. And there is always that local convenience store or village shop just around the corner.
Or you might like to visit one of our markets and pick up some fresh local produce for dinner, a homemade Dorset apple cake for afternoon tea or some eggs and bacon for tomorrows breakfast.
Why not book a holiday or short break today? We have plenty of choices of places to stay, where to eat and what to do during your visit.

Enjoy doing art for fun?
Want to share the experience with others especially during lockdown?
Andy set up during the November lockdown a Facebook Public group - Art for Fun. The ideas is for a range of people who like doing some art to share ideas, examples of things they have produced and to provide a growing community to encourage each other through what can be a very difficult time especially if you are alone.
The group has 3 rules:
1) Be kind and courteous - We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Kindness is required.
2) No promotions or spam - Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed
3) Art for fun means no judgement - NO comments that are critical, be supportive that members have participated and had a go at some art. Don't compare yourself with others as we all arrive with different experiences.
Andy footnote: I must emphasise this is not for artists to promote themselves in - see rule 2 - I am not using it to market my artwork. I started drawing to help my mental health as a therapy, I spent 30 years teaching 11-16 year olds and my art is self taught, I just practise a lot. I a very aware of how people say I can't draw or do art...if you enjoy doing it whatever the outcome please join in and tell others too.
