With 23 Wednesday night concerts and 11 Pops concerts at Lighthouse, Poole as well as touring full symphonic and chamber performances across the region, there’s more than enough for you to choose from throughout 2024/25! Their Wednesday nights make up their main orchestral season and sees them joined by a rotating cast of world-renowned soloists and conductors, but it’s your attendance that makes each concert so special.

If you’ve never seen the orchestra in action before, now’s the perfect time to book your tickets. This autumn, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra really have a stellar line-up.

This Wednesday, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performed their big season opener The Planets to a completely sold out concert hall! But don’t worry if you’re keen on Holst’s out-of-this-world suite, they’ll be playing even more of the great composer’s work when they celebrate his anniversary on 23 October with Holst 150!

Other highlights this autumn include Tchaikovsky’s great, final Symphony No.6 on 16 October and Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto No.5 on 30 October. If you’re into classical music, you’ll know how exciting these pieces truly are, especially when played by a full symphony orchestra.

But you don’t need to know the pieces to feel that magical feeling when every member of the orchestra joins forces to produce their great symphonic sound. It’s gets your heart racing, skin covered in goosebumps and butterflies in your stomach. Don’t you want to experience all of that? Take the plunge and give classical music a go this season.

On that note, you won’t be the only newbie in the hall! The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be introducing their new artistic team as they begin their new season so don’t worry if it’s your first time in the concert hall, it’s going to be a new experience for those on stage, too!

Enyi Okpara

Throughout November, you’ll have the chance to see the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s new Calleva Assistant Conductor Enyi Okpara, Chief Conductor Mark Wigglesworth and then, both their Principal Guest Conductor Chloé van Soeterstède and Artist-in-Residence violinist Alena Baeva making debuts in their new roles. You can see them, respectively, on Wednesday 13 November for Clarinet Bliss, Wednesday 20 November for Wigglesworth Conducts Walton and on Wednesday 27 November for Mad Over Mendelssohn.

Chloé van Soeterstède & Mark Wigglesworth, BSO

Or if you prefer something a bit more upbeat, join the BSO for an electric Saturday Night when they’re joined by a star group of singers for Symphonic Bee Gees on 9 November. This orchestral celebration of this great band’s greatest hits isn’t to be missed – the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra know how to do it!

Symphonic Bee Gees

They also take frequent ventures around the county with their On Your Doorstep concerts. These bring mid-scale chamber ensembles to venues and audiences across the region in ways engaging for families, new audiences and seasoned concert-goes alike. Upcoming, they have an exciting strings concert in Wareham on 15 November so if you’re based around there, be sure not to miss it! But do keep your eyes peeled for further announcements somewhere near you throughout the season.
