Ride Through History on Swanage Railway

Step back in time aboard the Swanage Railway, a heritage steam railway that runs through the heart of the Isle of Purbeck. Kids will love the excitement of a steam train ride, while adults can soak up the scenic views of rolling countryside and coastal beauty.
New for the October school holidays, there’ll be a fang-tastic Halloween Ghost Train with family friendly frights for all ages. These specially decorated trains start at Norden Station, where you’ll meet a friendly witch, who’ll weave spine-tingling stories as you travel. Fancy dress is encouraged - grown-ups too!
Halloween Fun at Swanage Pier
This October half term, from Saturday 25 October to Sunday 2 November, Swanage Pier is the place to be for frightfully fun activities!
Follow the spook-tacular Halloween Trail - hunt for hidden spooky creatures, solve a chilling riddle and complete a themed quiz as you explore the Pier.
And don’t miss the Halloween crafts session, where kids can create creepy masterpieces with help from the friendly volunteers.
The Pier is a great place for crabbing, a favourite activity among younger visitors. There’s also a small museum and café, making it a lovely stop for a relaxed afternoon by the sea.
October half term at Durlston Country Park

Just a short walk from the town centre, Durlston Country Park is a haven for nature lovers. With over 320 acres of countryside, dramatic cliffs and woodland trails, it’s ideal for family walks and wildlife spotting.
The Visitor Centre and castle offer interactive exhibits and family-friendly activities. For the autumn half term school holidays, take part in the Halloween Trail, kids activities or art and craft workshops (fees may apply).
Entry to the country park, castle and visitor centre is free, however car parking fees apply if you’ve driven up from town.
Meet the Animals at Salt Pig The Farm
For a taste of rural life, visit Salt Pig The Farm which is located in the neighbouring village of Langton Matravers.
You’ll get the chance to meet pigs, goats, chickens and more. Children can enjoy go-kart rides, feeding the animals and the indoor soft play zone. The farm shop and café serve delicious local produce, perfect for a hearty lunch or snack.
Get Creative at Burngate Stone Carving Centre

Unleash your family’s creativity at Burngate Stone Carving Centre, where you can try your hand at carving Purbeck stone.
Family friendly workshops are available on Saturdays 25 October and 1 November, offering a unique and tactile experience that’s both educational and fun. The workshops are suitable for children aged 8 years old and above, and you don't need any previous stone carving experience.
