Get Active in the Great Outdoors

One of the best ways to explore Lyme Regis and the surrounding area is on foot and there is no shortage of beautiful places to discover. Whether you’re an experienced walker or a novice there are many scenic walking trails to enjoy. Experience the dramatic coastline, charming countryside or enjoy the trails around the town – there is something for everyone.

For those who enjoy a spot of fishing, why not try mackerel or sea fishing in the clear waters of Lyme Bay and see what you can catch.

Or take a boat trip to experience the glorious Jurassic Coast from the water. The Jurassic Coast stretches from Old Harry Rocks near Swanage all the way to Exmouth in Devon. This 95-mile part of the coast is England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must for all visitors to the town.

Lyme Regis Fossils

Lyme Regis is famous for its geology, fossils and its role in the birth of the earth sciences. The local clay contains the remarkable fossil remains of sea creatures from the Jurassic seas of 180 million years ago.

The town was also the home to fossil hunter and pioneering palaeontologist Mary Anning, you can learn more about her life and work at the Lyme Regis Museum. For those who want to follow in the footsteps of Mary Anning, why not join a fossil hunting tour or walk on your trip and see what you discover.

Lyme Regis for families

Lyme Regis has whole range of fun attractions and activities that will keep the whole family entertained, whatever the weather. Learn more about local sea creatures at the Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium, play mini golf in Lister Gardens or visit a working water mill, the Town Mill – just some of the attractions on offer.

A trip to this pretty seaside town wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach. Enjoy some delicious local fish and chips, have a swim in the sea or try something new like paddleboarding. Create some memories and enjoy quality time together on your holiday or day out.
