Sherborne is steeped in history, with its most iconic landmark being Sherborne Abbey – often referred to at the ‘Cathedral of Dorset’. This magnificent building dates back to the 8th century, and is a masterpiece of medieval architecture.

Guided tours are available and for younger visitors, there are Abbey Trails to complete as they go around the building.  

During Easter, the Abbey hosts special services for Holy Week beginning 14 April 2025, this includes services on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday.

The town’s vibrant community spirit comes alive with events such as the Sherborne Easter Market on Sunday 20 April, where local artisans and vendors showcase their crafts, produce, and delicious treats. It’s a great opportunity to pick up unique souvenirs and sample local delicacies.

Another must-visit attraction is Sherborne Castle and Gardens, built by Sir Walter Raleigh in the late 16th century. The castle’s beautiful gardens are in full bloom during spring, offering a colourful backdrop for a leisurely stroll. Between 5 and 21 April, children can join the Easter Trail to discover Easter bunnies and solve the clues along the way.
