Shop til you drop!

With a mix of high street brands and small, independent shops selling everything from sausages to souvenirs, you will be a satisfied shopper in Swanage. Look for a souvenir to remind you of your holiday, or seek out unusual and individual gifts for friends and family. From art galleries to books, records to gems and fossils, you will not be disappointed.

Take your time window shopping and browsing the interesting and eclectic vintage, retro and antique shops.

Food glorious food!

Purbeck Products Farmers market takes place on the second Saturday of the month – why not meet the producers and sample some fresh, local food? Many of the shops stock a variety of local produce including beef, lamb, pork and venison, while Swanage Outdoor Market is held every Friday.

From art galleries…

L’Artishe Gallery features work from internationally renowned artists as well as local artists. The gallery is open year round – come along and see the Artist in Residence and maybe purchase a work of art to treasure at home!

…to retro music and books

Looking for that record you gave to a friend which was never returned?  Replayed Records has a large stock of new and second hand records as well as CDs and DVDs and can transfer your valued vinyl and cassette tapes onto CD.

If you’re a bookworm, The Swanage Bookshop specialises in new, second-hand and collectible books, with a huge range of books about local history – a great opportunity to find out more about the area!

Something a bit different?

Visit some of the more unusual shops for that special gift or keepsake! You can find fossils, minerals, crystals and jewellery at Natural Wonders, and specialist silver and gemstone jewellery at Castle Gemstones. If you are after fair trade, ethnic or colourful clothing, you may find just what you are looking for at Rainbow’s End.

For that special Italian leather or London designed handbag, why not treat yourself at Pursenalities Handbags and Accessories? Handbags and accessories are available at prices to suit all purses, and if you’ve forgotten your beach bag, you can get one here!

Chat to the friendly shop keepers who will be delighted to help you pick out a great new look for your wardrobe.

After you’ve worked up an appetite, take a coffee break or enjoy lunch in one of the street side cafes or restaurants over looking the sea.

And make sure you look out for the Beach Hut pop-up shops at Christmas time. A great place to pick up unusual and unique gifts for your loved ones.

    • Enjoy doing art for fun?
Want to share the experience with others especially during lockdown?
Andy set up during the November lockdown a Facebook Public group - Art for Fun. The ideas is for a range of people who like doing some art to share ideas, examples of things they have produced and to provide a growing community to encourage each other through what can be a very difficult time especially if you are alone.
      The group has 3 rules:
      1) Be kind and courteous - We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Kindness is required.
      2) No promotions or spam - Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed
      3) Art for fun means no judgement - NO comments that are critical, be supportive that members have participated and had a go at some art. Don't compare yourself with others as we all arrive with different experiences.
Andy footnote: I must emphasise this is not for artists to promote themselves in - see rule 2 - I am not using it to market my artwork. I started drawing to help my mental health as a therapy, I spent 30 years teaching 11-16 year olds and my art is self taught, I just practise a lot. I a very aware of how people say I can't draw or do art...if you enjoy doing it whatever the outcome please join in and tell others too.
