These small, sweet villages derive their extraordinary name from the river on which they sit – the Piddle. The villages provide a charming base from which to explore Hardy country, whether it be for the literary links or just to enjoy some of England’s best countryside. Piddlehinton is a delightful village in which to wander, full of picturesque, thatched cottages and farm buildings. Piddletrenthide is the larger of the two villages and has many 17th and 18th century banded flint and brick/stone cottages and a pretty flint school of 1848 with iron gates from the tomb of Lady Margaret Beaufort in Westminster Abbey. Refreshment in the villages can be found in at the The Piddle, The Poachers, The European or the Thimble Inns.
