You are here: What's On > ROZI PLAIN
This date of this event has changed (the previous date was 27 March). All tickets for the original date are valid for the new date.
Alt-folk musician Rozi Plain is visiting following the release of her latest album ‘What A Boost’ released on Memphis Industries and a raft of sold out dates on her UK tour. With an approach that's intricate and quietly off-center, Rozi Plain emerged with her solo debut, ‘Inside Over Here’, in 2008 and quickly became a favourite on BBC Radio 6music. She also plays bass in This is the Kit!
Rozi Plain has been making music since her brother taught her a few chords on the guitar aged 13. Raised in Winchester, she spent a few years studying art and painting boats in Bristol, where she began collaborating with long-term friends Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Rachael Dadd among many others on a thriving local scene. It was there that Rozi made her first two albums, 2008’s Inside Over Here and 2012’s Joined Sometimes Unjoined, each works of deliciously sad and beautiful pop full of heart-wrenching harmonies dotted with unexpected instrumental flourishes.
Almost permanently on tour, Rozi has taken her joyous live show on the road countless times around Europe, the UK and the USA, in partnership with alt-folk luminaries from Devendra Banhart to James Yorkston and the Pictish Trail.
Tweaked and refined during a year spent touring the world playing bass in This Is The Kit, ‘What A Boost’ nurtures its homely roots and then blooms into a record that isn’t strictly about life on road but is undoubtedly, and beautifully, shaped by it. Textural, repetitive, propulsive, the whole piece plays out like a soundtrack to the world flying past the window; all of the shapes, colours, sights and sounds, flickering fast as we try to take as much of it in as we can.
