CANCELLED - This event has been cancelled for 2021.
Chesil Rocks 2020 will be taking place this year over 2 days, Friday 19th for classical and Saturday 20th June as usual performances, and will again be at Higher Farmhouse, Langton Herring and raising funds for Samaritans of Dorset. An amazing line-up will be performing alternately on two stages - one stage outside and one in a marquee - and will include a great variety of music, comedy and other entertainment from Dorset and beyond. please check http://www.chesilrocks.com/line-up/4573211867 for this year's line up.
Over 6,000 people in the UK each year commit suicide, 3/4 of them men, although there has been a notable increase in suicides by females in recent years. Suicide disproportionately affects certain occupations such as musicians and those involved in farming, but also mothers of young children and young people generally. Nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected by suicide, and of the devastation and heartbreak left behind. Samaritans receive around 5 million calls for help every year – mostly today on their national freephone number 116 123 – but receive practically no government funding. Indeed, much of their time is spent on fundraising activities to the detriment of what they are trained to do and what they do best - saving lives. This is why we support our local branch of Samaritans.
At the 2017 Chesil Rocks event, we raised over £9,000 for the charity – about a quarter of their annual budget - and over the last six years have raised more than £48,000 for Samaritans of Dorset helping them to maintain their crucial service.
As Chesil Rocks is not a commercial event, and due to huge goodwill and generous sponsors, the tickets, food and drinks are keenly priced. We will have brilliant activities for children too, including facepainting, a treasure hunt, magicians, a play area and storytelling.
Those wishing to attend should be aware that Chesil Rocks has a strict 500 person capacity and we have sold out in each of the last four years - so buy your tickets in advance to be sure or on the day get there early! Visit the website to either buy or find out where to buy tickets – http://www.chesilrocks.com
The food outlets will again be exceptional, with freshly made Pizzas, gourmet burgers, vegetarian and vegan food, gourmet fish dishes, a salad bar, freshly brewed coffee, cream teas from Samaritans and delicious ice cream.
We'll have a fantastic bar, with real ale and cider fresh from the barrel, wine and a selection of soft drinks all at reasonable prices. There will also be a great cocktail bar selling an exciting range of cocktails including the trendy Aperol Spritz, classic Mojitos and Caribbean rum punch. We will also be serving up Pimms and Prosecco!
