You are here: Visitor Information > Travel Information > Corfe Castle Railway Station
No visit to Swanage Railway is complete without a trip to Corfe Castle station. The station building dates from the opening of the line in 1885, but following closure and narrowly avoiding demolition in the 1970’s has been painstakingly restored by Swanage Railway's hard working team.
Step back in time as you enter the station ticket office, complete with wooden floors, coal fires and Ladies Waiting Room. You can listen to the birds and ting-ting of signal bells coming from the heritage signalbox before the train steams into view.
The Goods Shed is now home to Swanage Railway Museum and has been restored to display period signs and memorabilia linked to the long history of railways in Purbeck and Dorset. You can even see inside the original Station Master’s lounge restored to the 1950's, complete with old radio and newspapers. Find out about the history of this railway branch-line and the extraordinary battle to save and then rebuild every single panel of track. The Museum is open from April to September every day, and from October to November when trains are running. Entry is free.
The view from the footbridge over the station platform with Corfe Castle in the background has been photographed thousands of times and makes for a great photo to remind you of your holiday to Dorset.
From Corfe Castle Railway Station you can catch trains south to Harman's Cross, Herston Halt and Swanage, as well as trains heading north to the Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum at Norden.
Standard tickets for travelling on Swanage Railway can be purchased from the station ticket office, or in advance online. Tickets can also be purchased on the train, but only cash can be accepted for these payments.
Unfortunately, there is no parking available at Corfe Caste and Herston stations, they are accessible by foot only.
