Christchurch has been a visitor’s haven for hundreds of years, and it’s no wonder with so much to see and do. This ancient Saxon sea town combines old world charms with the attractions of a quiet seaside resort.
Christchurch maintains its Saxon street layout with a mosaic of little shops, ancient buildings and picturesque walks for you to enjoy. The Christchurch priory is a medieval monastic church dating to the 11th century, the longest parish church in England. A visit to this town wouldn’t be complete without admiring its remarkable Norman nave and turret.
Rich with heritage wonders, see a Saxon mill, a medieval bridge and two castles on a visit to Christchurch. Visit the 11th century Norman castle keep and house or marvel at Highcliffe Castle, Romantic architecture at its best.
The surrounding countryside is a paradise for anglers, the nearby rivers Stour and Avon abounding with famous Christchurch salmon. Bird watchers too will delight in taking the ferry to Hengistbury sand spit to enjoy its extensive nature reserve.
Visit Christchurch by train and take pleasure in its medley of sandy beaches, cosy teashops and elegant restaurants.
