Sherborne Castle produces award winning wines, Brandy and English Sparkling wine. The tradition of wine making on the Estate has been long established. It started in the Middle Ages when Bishop Roger, who built the Old Castle planted a vineyard on the northern side of the lake. The tradition was revived in 1982, when a three-hectare vineyard was planted at Wake Court Bishops Caundle.
The Estate produces a classic white wine, the Special Reserve which is a blend of four grape varieties. A crisp dry fruity wine, excellent as an aperitif and as an accompaniment to food.
The Rosé is made from the Pinot grape and is a new addition to our stable. It has a gentle rosé colour, with a light refreshing taste, perfect chilled for a warm summer’s day.
Two exceptional English sparkling wines are produced, a Rosé and a white. Made in the traditional method this is a vintage well balanced, dry fruity sparkling wine ideal for any special occasion. Sir Kenelm Digby invented the sparkling wine bottle in the 17th Century!
The Brandy is distilled from Sherborne Castle Wine, aged in oak barrels for eight years. It has a smooth rounded flavour, a real must for all brandy connoisseurs.
Taste Dorset in a glass! Celebrate Christmas with Sherborne Castle sparkling wine!
