SANDWORLD - SCULPTURE PARK - WEYMOUTH
We are very excited about 2016 - if you love the sand sculptures on the beach, you will absolutely love SandWorld. Founded by local businessman David Hicks and Mark Anderson, Weymouth’s resident sand sculptor and Grandson of Fred Darrington, who together clock up an impressive 95 years of carving out of the famous Weymouth sands. In it’s sixth season, SandWorld is a unique art gallery with a difference.
We showcase enormous, breathtaking, life-sized works of art, created entirely out of sand and water by visiting world class, award winning sculptors. This years theme “A Life On Earth” - celebrating the life and work of David Attenborough featuring all creatures great and small from Jurassic Dinosaurs to tigers, monkeys and microscopic beasts - where else can you see a ginormous “water bear” and “flea” carved out of sand.
Once inspired by the amazing art, the exciting bit happens; you get to have a go at creating your own masterpiece, be it a Dinosaur Egg, Orangutan, Tiger or Ichthyosauria - anything is possible, as we have skilled staff and the necessary tools to guide you including Daily Workshops.
We also offer a monthly carving competition, fun facts quiz, head in hole and hunt for the fun character, picnic tables, café & visit to the gift shop completes your day out and don’t forget a visit to the green gyms & play area in Lodmoor!
