Camp Bestival takes place on the last weekend of July and is a 4 day, family focused festival in the grounds of Lulworth Castle. Billed as ‘a family festi-holiday at a castle by the sea’, Camp Bestival is curated by Rob da Bank and features everything from music to comedy, food, fun and children’s entertainment by the giant sized bucket load.  This will be our second visit and the whole family is beyond excited to see what Camp Bestival 2018 has in store.

Days full of fun from dawn til dusk

Camp Bestival Insect Circus

On our first ever visit in 2016 we discovered new areas of the festival every day! We were out from early morning till very late and watched an Insect Circus, played on the biggest bouncy castle in the world, joined in a hula hooping workshop and attended a wedding in an inflatable church not to mention dancing away to some amazing music with a cocktail or two!  The sun shone and it was the best weekend of amazing, exhilarating and exhausting family fun!

Try something new

Camp Bestival is all about embracing the festi spirit and trying something new.  It offers a screen free weekend and a chance to get away with the family, have precious time and so much fun.  In 2016 our youngest absolutely loved his dagger making workshop and I spent some lovely contemplative, girly time with our young teen at a mandala making session.  We laughed at the crazy antics of Dick and Dom, watched the Wall of Death motorbike riders (on my husband’s bucket list) and danced to Jess Glynne, Fat Boy Slim and many more!

The kids were never bored.  Just as you sat down to rest your legs things literally popped up around you and you just had to go with it!  Every age of your tribe will be thoroughly entertained.  Teens have their own area to hang out in and little ones will be thrilled to see their TV favourites such as Mr Tumble and Peter Rabbit.  There’s kids free zones for mums and dads too!

Plan of attack!

If you’re planning your first visit to Camp Bestival, for a day visit or the whole weekend, my top tip is to buy a festival programme as soon as you arrive and start planning what you want to see.  You won’t be able to stick to it, there’s just too much to distract you but that’s what makes it so much fun!

Camp Bestival evening lights

This year we’ve pencilled in Thrill Collins’ set in Caravanseri, a small, ramshackle stage with seating built entirely from vintage caravans and fairground rides.  Thrill Collins are a three-piece acoustic party band who have a habit of rearranging some of the most epic pop songs of all time, with surprising results.  They were one of the highlights for us last time.  We’ve also pencilled in Tokio Myers, of Britain’s Got Talent fame, as well as Max and Harvey, Equilibrius High Wire Act and the headline acts of course, but we know we’ll come away feeling  like we’ve barely scratched the surface of what this awesome, enchanting weekend has to offer.

Finish with a firework extravaganza

On Sunday evening everyone gathers for fireworks over Lulworth Castle before making their slow and steady exit on the Monday morning and we’ll be sad when it’s all over.
