Shopping in Dorchester

When it's time for some retail therapy, there are many well-known high street brands alongside small, independent shops. They sell everything from Dorset's local produce to clothing, jewellery, antiques, art and unusual gifts.

There is a central pedestrianised area with three arcades - Hardye, Tudor and Antelope Walk. You will find shops along High Street, Durngate Street and Trinity Street. And you won't want to miss the big named brands at Brewery Square next to Dorchester South Railway Station.

On the outskirts of Dorchester, you'll find Poundbury with its eclectic mix of independent retailers and cute coffee shops.

Brewery Square

Brewery Square is a vibrant new quarter bringing a Covent Garden feel to Dorset’s county town.

Named after its roots, this is where Eldridge Pope brewed their famous ales from 1880 until the late 1990s.

Today, Brewery Square is a popular shopping and leisure destination where modern restaurants, cafés, bars, brasseries and one of Dorchester’s two cinemas provide entertainment.

Shops include Hobbs, Phase Eight, Loco Loves, Belle Modelle, Vinyl Van and Gallery on the Square.

Poundbury

A visit to Poundbury is like a visit to a living film-set. The mid-90s brainchild of King Charles III has become a stylish, eco-friendly village quite unlike anywhere else in Dorset.

Its quintessential English charm has to be experienced to be believed. Grand imposing mansions mix with homely traditional cottages.

Simply wander its interesting architecture where quirky and specialist shops invite and eateries tempt. Stop by for a coffee and browse the unique shops. They also have regular markets too.

Market Days

Dorchester town market is held every week on Wednesday mornings opposite Brewery Square. It features an outdoor and covered market with a large variety of stalls. Come and enjoy the lively atmosphere and pick up some fresh local produce, clothes, antiques, collectibles and gifts.

Fresh local produce is also up for grabs at the farmers’ market on the first Saturday of each month at Poundbury.
