Situated at West Bay, on the Jurassic Coast within the heart of a World Heritage Conservation Area, Mead Cottage is a delightful comfortable modern mid-terrace two-bedroomed cottage with a sunny secluded garden and private parking for two cars. It's only a short stroll along a pretty bridle path to the harbour/beach and costal walks, and 1.5 miles from the historic market town of Bridport. It's an ideal base for touring Dorset, East Devon and Somerset.
West Bay is a bustling working harbour and has excellent beaches for swimming off, or just sun bathing and fossil hunting. It has variety of good shops, including a newsagents, Spar and fishmongers, plus a large antique market. There are excellent cafes , restaurants and welcoming pubs, all serving local fresh produce, especially fish, and it's all within walking distance of Mead Cottage. There is a small museum at the harbour telling the history of the area.
There is fishing off the harbour, or you can book for a deep sea fishing trip. Fishing tackle and bait can be hired locally. Nearby there is a golf course and riding stables. There is a national cycle path (No.2) at the bottom of Meadowlands.
Every Saturday and Wednesday a bustling street market is held in Bridport, which consist of large variety of stalls, and every second Saturday each month there's a Farmer's Market. During the summer months a Car Boot Sale is held every Sunday morning at West Bay Car Park.
A bus runs from Weymouth, via Abbotsbury & Dorchester, and one to Seaton, via Charmouth & Lyme Regis, which runs along the coast road. Free travel if you have a Bus Pass!. During the summer months a water taxi runs between West Bay harbour and Lyme Regis.
Places nearby to visit are; Abbotsburty Gardens and Swannery, Maidens Castle in Dorchester, Charmouth Fossil Centre, The Cobb at Lyme Regis, Weymouth & Portland, Corfe Castle, Swanage and Lulworth Cove are only a drive away. In West Devon, Beer, Braunston, Seaton & Sidmouth are only a hour’s drive away. In Somerset you have the Steam Railway at Taunton which runs to Minehead (an excellent day out especially if you stop off at Dunster to visit the castle).
The accommodation consists of a comfortable cosy sitting room which has a colour TV, DVD player, Freeview, radio and CD player, plus a variety of board games and books. There is also a range of information available relating to the local area, so you can easy plan your days out. Local BT Fon.
The dining room has a table and four chairs, and opens onto the secluded sunny garden which has a patio table and chairs. It’s ideal for dining outside. Beyond the back garden gate lie two private car parking spaces.
The fully fitted modern kitchen is equipped with a washing machine, fridge/freezer, gas hob/electric fan oven, microwave oven and an iron/board.
Upstairs there are two twin bedded rooms and a modern bathroom with bath and shower.
Bed linen is provided and the beds are made up for the guest's arrival.
