The UK has a number of locations which have a rich Olympic and Paralympic heritage and story to tell. The Welcome Song will be a newly commissioned peice of choral music which will celebrate those places and their story, and the ambition is for the peice to be adopted by future Olympic and Paralympic host cities for further performances.
Among the locations the Welcome Song will be performed in 2012 are three in the South West - Chipping Campden, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Robert Dover's Games or the Cotswold Olympicks; Torquay, the host of the 1948 Olympic sailing events and, of course, Weymouth & Portland, where it will welcome athletes and visitors to the London 2012 sailing and windsurfing events.
Other locations will include Munch Wenlock, home of Dr William Penny Brookes' Wenlock Olympics, and Stoke Mandeville, birthplace of the Paralympic Games.
Chipping Campden: June 1st
Weymouth & Portland: July 27th
