Tyneham Village
Historic Site
Tyneham village was evacuated in December 1943 for military training during the second world war and the village has been deserted ever since, but many of the buildings survive and the Church (still used for occasional services) and School now houses excellent exhibitions about the village and villagers. Please note that the exhibitions in Tyneham School and Tyneham Church are open from 10am until 4pm when the village is open to the public.
A short walk (1 mile) from the village leads to the spectacular Worbarrow Bay which is part of the Jurassic Coast.
The village, Bay and the Lulworth Ranges are now managed by the Ministry of Defence and therefore access is limited. To find opening times for Tyneham village, Worbarrow Bay and the Range Walks, go to www.dorsetforyou.com/389942
The gates to the Range Walks are opened as near to 9am on the Saturday morning as possible and remain open until 8am on the Monday morning when only open at the weekends. The gate to Tyneham village is locked each night at dusk.
