Our exhibitions tell the story of armoured warfare spanning almost 100 years of history. As you explore the museum's six large halls, you will come face to face with vehicles that have seen action in all the major wars of the 20th Century. This unique collection of over 200 vehicles includes the world's first ever tank, the feared German Tiger tank and the modern Challenger 2.
The tank was a British invention that changed warfare forever when it was introduced to World War 1 and Bovington has been the home of the tank ever since. From the Somme to Tiananmen Square or D-Day to Desert Storm the tank has played a part in shaping history - and it continues to do so today.
"The Tank Story" is the key element of this project and tells the story of the tank from its World War 1 origin to the future. This new 50,000 sq ft multimedia exhibition puts the development of the tank in context with global events, whilst the experiences of former tank crews are presented in their own words.
"The Trench Experience" allows you to walk in the footsteps of a World War 1 soldier from the recruiting office to the front line and in the Discovery Centre; you will find out how different tanks are used in different ways and learn what its like to be a tank crewman.
"Battlegroup Afghanistan - The Armoured Soldiers Story". The men of the Royal Armoured Corps have been engaged in some of the fiercest fighting since World War 2. Now they tell their story - with uncompromising and gritty honesty. Explore a re-created Forward Operating Base. Hear first hand accounts from the veterans and see a range of vehicles used in Afghanistan today.
Don't miss our Tank Action displays during the school holidays; life-like explosions, thundering engines and expert commentary. See our website for dates and times of displays.
The Tank Museum hosts a number of special events throughout the year; including evening lectures, military band performances, experience days, the annual Tankfest, a Christmas Fayre and 'behind the scenes' tours.
