Weymouth Walk - Ferrybridge - Sandsfoot - Rodwell

Walking Tour

None

From the TIC, catch the 501 service (summer only), the sureline X10 (Mon-Fri) from the Kings Statue, or the number 1 service from behind Debenhams at any time of year. The journey takes approx. 20 minutes to Ferrybridge. (Contact the TIC on 10305 785747, for details or visit www.traveline.org.uk).

As you leave the bus, you will see small Mouse bay in front of you. The footpath is signed to your left. Follow the footpath until you reach the old Portland railway track and turn left onto the Rodwell Trail. Continue along the trail until you reach a junction. Turn right, approx. 10 metres and you will reach old castle road. It is worth a small detour here to visit Sandsfoot Castle and gardens. If you turn left, the entrance to the gardens is a few metres on your right.

Return to the Rodwell Trail and continue towards Weymouth. The main road to Portland passes over at Buxton Road Bridge, then you will pass through a wooded cutting and the old railway platforms at Rodwell Station. Continue under the impressive brick built railway tunnel and onto an embankment. From here, you can enjoy extensive views of Weymouth across to the ridgeway and Dorset coastline. Continue to the end of the embankment and follow the trail down the road and continue back up onto the embankment.

The Rodwell Trail continues for another few metres and ends at the junction with Abbotsbury Road. Turn right and use the subway under the main road to Radipole Lake.

Turn right, and then left over Westham bridge. Use the crossing at the end of the bridge and continue up to the end of Westham Road to the Kings Statue on the seafront.
