Dorset’s most westerly town, sitting on the Dorset-Devon border is a picturesque seaside settlement where the narrow maze of steep streets wind their way down to the 13th century Cobb (landing place of the Monmouth rebellion), family friendly beach and dramatic sea views. The area is world famous for its fossils which date back to the Jurassic period and several local museums, attractions and shops are dedicated to this geological heritage. Local scientist and fossil hunter Mary Anning found the world's first ichthyosaur here in the 19th century and the town attracts millions of keen fossil hunters annually hoping that they too may stumble across a worthy find.

Literary fans will love Lyme Regis as the town has featured in a number of novels and their televised adaptations including Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' and 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' by local author John Fowles. Jane Austen frequented Lyme Regis often and her descriptions of the town show a genuine affection for it. In 1804 she wrote to her sister telling of the delights of bathing, walking on the Cobb and dancing at the local assembly rooms.

A buzzing coastal resort, Lyme Regis is not short of interesting things to see and do. Lyme has a packed schedule of events all year round and a sizeable array of attractions including the Lyme Regis Museum, Dinosaurland, crazy golf and the Marine Aquarium. Its borderline location means that the nearby East Devon attractions of Seaton Tramway and Pecorama are also only a short drive away.

Art lovers will feel at home in Lyme Regis as there are many unique galleries showing a high level of quality works from local and national artists. The Marine Theatre additionally hosts an exciting programme of live performances and events. To finish the day, the town also offers a great selection of restaurants, including that of celebrity chef Mark Hix, which offer tempting seafood specialities.
