Bradford Peverell is one of the oldest villages in Dorset which pre-dates the Roman occupation of Dorchester. The village is the birthplace of John Hutchins (1698-1773), Dorset's most famous historian.
The church of St. Mary's is unusual for Dorset in that it is one of the few in the county with a rare, medieval spire, a fact which has recently been brought to the attention of a wider audience as doubts have been raised regarding its safety. Dr. Howley, once a rector here, rose to become Archbishop of Canterbury and it was he who crowned Queen Victoria.
About a mile and a half south of the village is the New Barn Field Centre which offers the August visitor a Traditional Working Pottery, Bygones Exhibitions, Celtic Village, Coffee Shop, Wild flower Meadow, Reptile & Amphibian Sanctuary (currently being updated), Wildlife Pond, Coppice, Permacultre & Forest Garden, Alterative Energy & Eco Centre, Farm Animals & Stunning Views of Dorset from the Nature Trail.
